Wooly bears are a common favorite, with their fluffy black and brown bodies, but certain caterpillars can pose great danger to the little ones if they are handled inappropriately.

The Puss Caterpillaris a fuzzy creature that looks like a miniature moving wig, but its hiding a dangerous secret. Underneath all that fur lay dozens of tiny little spikes just waiting to sink into your skin and shoot you full of venom. Puss Caterpillars are commonly found in the Southeast and prefer to stay high in trees, but growing temperatures have seen them making their way to the ground in increased numbers.
If you should happen upon one, do not touch it. A single jab from one of these venomous creatures can leave you sweating and nauseated and on your way to the doctor. Teach your children the benefits of “Look, but don’t touch,” and stay well away from these fuzzy critters.
