There are numerous people who suffer from some of the most painful diseases known to man. Chronic pain is a side effect of many common diseases; some pain can be completely eradicated, and others must be dealt with in the best way possible. The following list outlines information about some of the most painful diseases:
1. Epidermolysis bullosa
Epidermolysis bullosa, or EB, is a very rare disease that causes the skin to become extremely fragile. This disease makes the skin so sensitive, that the slightest touch or amount of friction can cause blisters to appear on the body. Eating is also a challenge for patients with EB as the disease also causes food to have the same blistering effect on the throat. Unfortunately, EB severely decreases the life expectancy of its patients as most people with the disease do not live to see 30 years.
2. Peritonitis
Peritonitis is the inflammation of the membrane that lines the abdominal wall and most abdominal organs. This disease is an infection caused by a leakage in the abdominal, a hole in the intestines, or the effects of a ruptured appendix.
The infection can be life-threatening if not treated in time. Symptoms include pain in the abdominal area, bloating, nausea, fever, or the dysfunction of organs. Surgery is almost always required for the treatment of this infection.
3. Endometriosis
Many of us know at least one female that deals with the difficulties caused by endometriosis. Endometriosis is a disease that occurs when the tissue that normally lines the uterine walls grows outside of the uterus. The most common symptoms of this disease are abdominal pain and irregularities in one’s menstrual cycle.
Endometriosis can also contribute to issues regarding infertility. Although treatable, endometriosis is a chronic condition and can occur on a life-long basis.
4. Sickle Cell Anemia
Sickle Cell Anemia is a painful, rare, chronic condition that has gained a lot of attention in recent years. Those with sickle cell anemia possess red blood cells that are shaped like a sickle or crescent. These types of red blood cells die quickly, leaving patients with a mass absence of red blood cells in their bodies. Those with sickle cell anemia may experience pain in the joints or chest, a lack of oxygen in the body, dizziness, and fatigue. This disease is treatable, however, it has unfortunately claimed several lives.
5. Arthritis

Nevertheless, we have learned in recent years that arthritis can easily affect adults and children younger than 40 as well. Arthritis is essentially the inflammation of the joints. This disease is treatable, however, is chronic and cannot be cured.
6. Cancer
Cancer is a horrific disease that affects patients and families by the millions. Cancer occurs when cells divide and produce additional cells at abnormal rates, causing the accumulation of the cells to begin to destroy important tissue. There are several different types of cancer as cancer can occur in nearly any part of the body. Symptoms are often unique to different cancers. Cancer treatment can cause the body to become weak and experience various levels of pain.
7. Migraine Headache
Migraine headaches are a common occurrence among numerous individuals. Experiencing a migraine headache can be extremely debilitating for some and could possibly leave someone bed-ridden for the remainder of the day. Symptoms often include sensitivity to light and sound, blurred vision, nausea, and intense pain on either one side of the face or right above the eye.

8. Aquagenic Urticaria
Being exposed to something we have an allergy towards can be a traumatic experience. Unfortunately, this is true for people who suffer from Aquagenic Urticaria or an allergy to water. Because of scientific technicalities, Aquagenic Urticaria is not recognized as a real allergy. However, the disease presents the event of receiving rashes whenever one is exposed to water. These rashes are known to be quite painful and make many daily activities difficult to maintain.
9. Complex Regional Pain Syndrom
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy, is a painful condition that joins the ranks of childbirth and amputation. This condition is speculated to be the result of trauma.
10. Shingles
Shingles are reactivation of the chickenpox virus in one’s body. This disease is common but can be easily prevented with a vaccine. Patients with shingles can experience pain or over-sensitivity in the skin.
Many diseases come with the cost of having to deal with excruciating pain. Most times, the pain can be managed with medicine and maintenance. It is important to research and acquire knowledge about these painful diseases so that we may understand the necessary measures of care.
