How to Make a True Home Gym
1. Get a high-quality adjustable bench
The need for an incline bench, a flat bench, and a decline bench can be replaced by one adjustable bench. An adjustable bench is versatile and can be used in almost all exercises. Buying an adjustable bench instead of buying three different ones will save money and occupy less space.
2. Get a set or two of dumbbells
Dumbbells are often considered a good choice for muscle training equipment. They are smaller and cheaper compared to large home-gym machines. They can help you start a strength training routine. Dumbbells can be bought two ways, decide how much weight you want to lift and buy sets accordingly or buy an adjustable dumbbell set. An adjustable dumbbell includes two handles for grip and plates of varying weight that are detachable.
3. Pick up a burst-resistant stability ball
These balls are great fitness equipment. They support the spine and isolate stomach muscles so they are excellent for abdominal workouts. A stability ball is more effective than sit-ups or crunches. The ball can even replace the bench in some exercises as they are highly versatile. Those looking for muscular strength and CNS improvement should train on stable ground, stability balls are unstable in some movements.
4. Use resistance-exercise bands
Bands are compact, portable, and allow for wide range of motion which makes them a must for your home gym. They are available in different levels of resistance and can be used almost every way that a dumbbell can and are cost-effective.
5. If you wish to increase strength, opt for an Olympic bar with bumper plates
These plates are rubber coated so they are more durable compared to ordinary plates because they can be dropped on the floor without breaking. When someone fails to complete a squat its important to be able to dump the bar. Mini-increments in weight are possible with barbells, this is useful for high-level lifters who are plateauing.
6. Get a cardio machine of choice
Cardio machines can be an important component of your home gym but its up to you to decide which of the cardio machines you prefer working on. There is a wide variety of choices, exercise bikes, treadmills, elliptical machines, etc. Make sure the one you’re looking to buy has different resistance levels for workout variety and challenge as you progress.
7. T hink about purchasing a power rack
This is a large piece of equipment, but worth buying in combination with a bench and Olympic barbell, especially in order to perform the bench press and squat safely without a spotter.
8. Exercise Mat
A good exercise mat for the floor is important to stretch comfortably, cushion the body during floor exercises, and safely perform weight-lifting without slipping. It will also help protect your floors.
