I think for a long time after my divorce I looked so hard for love that I probably scared away every opportunity for it to enter my life again. What I didn’t know then, and am glad to know now, is that all the love I have ever wanted or needed I already have, it is all inside me.
Love is everything, it really is all that matters, and when you truly love yourself you are amazed at all the love you have for everything around you. I love God. I love my two children. I love my daughter-in-love. I love my granddaughter. I love my mom. I love my dad. I love my sister, her husband, her four children and her dog. I love dozens of friends, a multitude of cousins, that super sweet cashier that always asks about the baby, and even my mom’s husband, kind of, it’s progress.
I love thunderstorms, I love being on a motorcycle and feeling the wind in my face. I love dogs, I love cats, I love horses, I love seeing the deer and rabbits in my yard. I love the intoxicating aroma of the budding lilacs outside my back door. I love sunset in the mountains. I love sunset over a lake, I love sunrises too. I love the colors green and purple, and all the other colors of the rainbow and elsewhere. I love to laugh. I love a good cry. I love sunny warm days, and I love making soup on cold days.
I love Spring, I love Summer, I love Autumn, I love Winter. Every season is my favorite, every niece and nephew is my favorite. I love my house, I love my car, I love my car’s sunroof. I love music, and dancing, and singing, and how I feel after a good workout. I love my hands in the dirt in the spring, the taste of home grown vegetables, a good cup of coffee in the morning, a nice meal prepared by someone else, the smell of food on the grill.
I love lilacs, daisies, peonies, orchids, and seeing a lovely bouquet on a table. I love lilies of the valley, towering pine trees, majestic oaks, mountain streams, fishing with my dad, the beauty of where I live. I love classical music, old rock, country, blues, jazz, and the birds of spring and summer. I love texts from my niece, when girls I have worked with grow up and become excellent nurses, and when they are kind enough to give me some credit for that. I love the freedom to write what amuses me and having other people read it.
Having so much love pour out of me how could I possibly feel I lack for anything? Do I still miss romantic love? Yes, sometimes, but I do not need it, and I am not actively searching for it. My life is filled with so many blessings, I feel so blessed. Love, really, is all you need.
Love is all you need….
