Today is the best day I have been alive so far, I am so impressed with what the day has brought so far. If you don’t stop growing, you die, or parts of you do, and I am not ready for that! I don’t expect life to be better in leaps and bounds, but my goal each day is to surpass the day before in one aspect, that’s all it takes to keep improving. At the end of the day when I have my personal quiet time I try to reflect on where I have improved, and where I can try to do better tomorrow.
When I think about my improvement area I try to do so gently, and with great love, as if I were talking to my child or my best friend. It varies from day to day, as do the problems in life, I may say to myself, “You know I love you. I think you are amazing. I think you could have handled that car cutting you off in traffic a little better than yelling and swearing, it’s not safe to drive when you’re upset.” Or I may remind myself, “Remember that older lady at the store that was so cute in her pink hat? Next time tell her she’s beautiful, no one may have told her that today, and she is.”
Some days I want to plan my daily food intake better, and include one more fruit or vegetable than yesterday. I give myself reminders for things like cleaning out that closet like I keep promising myself I will get done, or go through some of those pictures in that box. I still have a collage frame that is missing two pictures, maybe that will be my self-improvement project for tomorrow, today I am getting papers ready for our 3 appointments tomorrow, I enjoy leaving so much more when I am not frazzled and worrying about forgetting something.
I do try to not expect too much at once, slow and steady changes are the goal, and each day I strive to be a little better than the day before. My goal is not perfection, it would take a million years at this rate! As long as each day gets a little better and I can see progress I know I am growing and that makes me happy to be alive.
